I feel a bit guilty! Miyuki turned 4 years old on June 14th and I completely forgot about her birthday until last night. I guess there's really no harm done. Being a gecko, she's blissfully ignorant to dates, and isn't much for celebrating holidays.
Even if I had remembered, I probably wouldn't have gotten her anything. She's already spoiled, and doesn't need anything that she doesn't already have. I'm surprised I forgot her birthday though, considering what a special event it was! Miyuki hatched here - Aurora is her mother - and I was blessed to be able to watch her hatch from her egg.
That ^ first picture is of Aurora when she was gravid with Miyuki's egg. If you look closely you can see two eggs in her tummy. The egg picture is Miyuki's egg. Aurora laid both eggs on Easter Sunday, April 24th, 2011. My very special little Easter eggs! The second egg ended up being infertile, which is why you only see one in the picture.
I incubated Miyuki's egg for 52 days, then had the honor of being able to watch 'Yuki hatch! She started hatching on June 14th, 2011, around 4pm. It took her about an hour and 45 minutes to completely free herself of her egg. As you can see in the pictures, and you might have seen me write about this before, Yuki was a bright bubble gum pink color when she first hatched!
She weighed in at just 4 grams after hatching, but quickly started growing! You can see the newest pictures I have of her here. I wanted to take a few new pictures last night, but she was shedding and I didn't want to disturb her.
I have a video I took while she was hatching but it's probably boring to most people. It was a long process, and at the time I didn't have a camera good enough to video tape the whole thing. This was taken pretty early on in the hatching process, when just her little pink nose was starting to break out of her egg.
A very happy (belated) birthday to the littlest member of our pack, Miyuki! I hope we have many, many more years to spend with her.
